Vampires Aren’t Dead…Not Yet, Not Ever

Hi, everyone! And thanks so much to Michele for inviting me to post at VampChix today.  I love vampires—adore them, so having the chance to talk about one of my favorite supernatural creatures is always fun for me.
Let me give you five fast reasons that tell why I enjoy vamps so much:

1.     Spike. Seriously, I think my love for vampires kicked up about 100% when I first saw Spike on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. With his bleached blond hair and bugger-off attitude, he was very unlike any vampire I’d ever seen before on TV. He was fabulous. Flawed, very broken, but still dangerous—and strong enough to steal even a slayer’s heart.

2.     Dark Shadows. Come on—did anyone see this old vampire soap opera years ago? I loved it then, and now, since Johnny Depp is scheduled to take over the role of Barnabas Collins in the remake, this flick is promising to be stellar. Johnny as a vampire? Oh, yes, I’ll see that please!

3.     George Hamilton. What? Oh, come on! Surely you’ve heard of Love At First Bite. Yes, I know, some folks think that vamp movie starring Hamilton was cheesy, but a pre-teen me thought it was awesome (okay, full confession, I still do).  This vampire risked everything for his soul-mate. Got to love a man who will risk it all for the woman he loves, while still managing to have an awesome tan while being undead.

4.     Christine Feehan’s Carpathians.  I love reading about new takes on the vampire legend, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Christine Feehan’s vampire stories. I read DARK FIRE in 2001, and since then, I’ve been addicted. The vampire legend continues to twist and evolve and I’m always eager to see where the story will go next.

5.     Vampires prove that monsters can be…sexy. No, really—vamps are almost always portrayed as being sexy in books and movies. Yes, they are creatures of the night, and, yes, they drink blood and can kill quickly—but they are hot.  Hot and dangerous and very, very lethal.

So those are a few reasons why I like vamps. I could write lots more, but I think it would be more fun to hear about why you like vamps. Or, do you have a favorite vamp show/movie that hooked you on the undead hunks?  Tell me…I’d love to hear your stories!

Ah, and in case you are curious, here’s the blurb for  I’LL BE SLAYING YOU:

Cynthia Eden returns to the realm of the Other, where the supernatural bounty hunters of Night Watch work hard and play harder…
Sandra “Dee” Daniels is a vampire’s worst nightmare. Sure, she couldn’t get up to five-six in the highest heels money can buy—not that she ever wears heels. But the monsters in her past and the stake in her boot are enough to keep most bloodsuckers interested in staying undead out of Baton Rouge.
But there are changes afoot on her turf. Rumors of a Born Master in town—a vampire so powerful he can make the streets run with blood. And a new face in Dee’s dive bars and alleyways—Simon Chase, a strong, sexy shadow with a haunted past of his own. Simon knows a lot about the dark side of Dee’s work. He knows even more about how to make her body spark with desire. But the hot lust shimmering between them is only the beginning. Because Simon also knows a secret that will change Dee’s life—if she can live long enough to uncover it.

I completely get your love for Spike and George Hamilton!! And I'm excited about seeing Johnny Depp as a vamp, very.

Another favorite vamp of my is Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) from Moonlight. I was so sad when the network decided to end that series so quickly.

Congrats on your new release!!

I didn't know they were remaking the Dark Shadows film. I grew up watching the soap on TV.

I am a big fan of the frightnight movies. The first one definitely made you want to get bit by a vampire.

LOVED Dark Shadows. Quentin was my dream man, though. Used to run home after school to watch. When I got the first season on DVD as an adult, I was stunned at how cheesy it actually was. NOT how I remembered it. LOL! Still digging vamps all these years later- G. Hamilton was spectacular, too.

Cynthia Eden said...

Donna, I loved Mick! One season was not enough for me. And thanks for the congrats!!

LOL, Felicia, your list is great.

Cynthia Eden said...

Yes, Sandy, I am so excited about that remake. Can't wait to see it!

Dionne, it's been too long since a fright night flick came out--we need another!

You need to check out Michael Nouri. He was a really hot. I agree with all five of your pts too.

Cynthia Eden said...

Oh, I will check him out, Victoria! Thanks for the tip!

I loved Spike. And the remake of Dark Shadows back in the 90's too bad it didn't last long.
I have not read any of Christine Feehan’s books. I'll have to check them out.

Cynthia Eden said...

Definitely check them out, elaing8! I've got a shelf full of Feehan books.

I like vampires, whether they're scary, sexy, or funny, they're all great.
I used to watch a TV show called Forever Knight about a vampire cop, I loved it. Buffy and then Angel, Blood Ties and Moonlight, I've enjoyed vampires on TV and in the movies for a long time. I just like the idea that these are powerful creatures that drink blood, but they're not trying to kill us, they're trying to help us, and they're sexy as anything while trying to fight those baser urges that come with being a vampire.

Did someone say Johnny Depp?! I love me some Johnny Depp. And he's playing a vamp?! My prayers have been answered!

Great list and thanks for stopping by Cynthia.

Hi Cynthia! Yes, I am watching them all!! Michele Hauf is actually the one who recommended them to me and now I'm hooked! I only have a handful of episodes left on Netflix of Season 7 of Buffy and then I still have some left on Season 2 of Angel and can finish through those. Very fun!! I want to own them now of course, but Netflix has been awesome for this!

Angel is my favorite, but Edward Cullen actually got me started on my journey. Hmm, I think I can have a favorite adult vamp and ya vamp! :) Next was Blood Ties, which actually Henry is still an all time fave vamp too. And, I just read/heard about Johnny Depp and Dark Shadows so I'm very excited about that one as well!!! :) Actually, I also watch The Vampire Diaries on The CW and Stefan is my fave on there... I know, everybody likes Damon! LOL. Ian S. who plays Damon does do an awesome job, but if you read the books, Stefan is a sweetie! Okay, I think I've covered my favorite vamps for now... Oh wait, hmm... there are just so many! Even Spike in Buffy Season 6 & 7 has won a special place in my heart, which I would have sworn would have never happened... Ha ha! Gotta love those vamps! :)

Again, great post, thanks so much for chatting with us!! Happy reading & vamp slaying fun!!!

Cynthia Eden said...

Barbara, I remember that show! I think I caught it when it was on USA. Wish it would come back.

LOL, Jen, those were my thoughts, too!! And thank you!

Cynthia Eden said...

Oh, Shauna, it sures seems like you know your vampires!! I haven't watched The Vampire Diaries yet--sounds like I am missing out! I really started to like Spike in the later seasons. He just developed so much and I couldn't turn away from his awesomeness anymore!

So true, Cait045! So many different takes on vampires.

Cynthia Eden said...

Hi, Jeanette! I am going to have to watch that show!

Thank you, Donnas! I'm so looking forward to that movie! Can't wait to catch a preview.

Shauna Leigh Kemp said...

Aw, thanks Cynthia! :) I'll take that as a compliment, I guess I've come a long way since Edward and Twi, it feels nice to have expanded my vampire knowledge. I know what you mean about Spike, I couldn't shy away from him anymore either as much as I tried! Ha! And yes, definitely give Vampire Diaries a look or read, very enticing...

GB (formerly JD) said...

Oh, I am so gonna get my butt kicked for this... but give me a vampire who loves who and what he is any day over the I'm-an-evil-blood-sucking-emo-fiend kind of vampire. Lestat over Louis, Damon over Stephan, Spike over Angel (before he went all woogie over Buffy and he was way more badder-er than Angelus)... I think you get where I'm going here.

My first introduction to vampires was 'Love at First Bite' and some late night horror movies that I would stay up to watch unbeknownst to my parents. One of my favourite scenes from a vampire movies will always be George Hamilton having a hangover when he wakes up one evening after feasting on a drunk homeless guy. Love it!

Loved the original Dark Shadows! Love at First Bite was hysterical. I can't wait to read "I'll Be Slaying You", I love your books.

I'm madly in love with Eric Northman from True blood. He's the best. I also love the Argenau series from Lynsay Sands and J.R ward's novels, Twilight saga, the classic Dracula and many many more.

Shauna, I am going to check for the Vamp Diaries when I go to the bookstore today. Should be good 4th of July reading!

GB, I agree! I like a vamp who embraces what/who he is. LOL--and I remember that Hamilton scene!

Cynthia Eden said...

Thanks, Martha!! I am so glad other folks enjoyed Love at First Bite, too!

Kirsten, I have got to watch True Blood. I think I may need to buy some DVDs!

Shauna Leigh Kemp said...

Cynthia, that sounds like perfect 4th of July reading! Happy book hunting!! I hope they have them for you! :) Books 1-4 you can get in 2 book sets so book 1 is actually book 1 & 2, and book 2 is 3-4; if you didn't already know. But, if you get the little ones with the TV cast pictures on the front I think those are just 1 book each, so it's up to you! Then the newer ones are also just 1 book each and hardback since newer. I'm excited for you to read them!! Let me know how you like them. =*)

That reminds me, I still have the latest one to read, yay!! Maybe I'll read it over the 4th as well. (I've been sidetracked by The Morganville Vampire series that I've been reading with a friend, but I might be done by then... See what YA vamps & well, vampire books in general has done to me? Ha ha! It's even more fun that I get to blog about it here at VampChix with everyone! =) I'm very excited about I'll Be Slaying You as well!! Happy reading!

The show that made me read vampire books was Buffy. I loved that show! And the first vampire series I read was the Anita Blake one by Laurell K. Hamilton.
