Who is mother of modern paranormal romance?

The Dear Author review/blog site has a great post today asking that question.  Many of today's readers aren't aware of the earlier paranormal and vampire romances that launched the frenzy we see now.   Stop by, and voice your opinion!

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, as far as the "prehistory" of paranormal romance is concerned.

For PNR as a marketing category, none of the listed authors comes close. The first vampire novel to be MARKETED as a romance, to the best of my knowledge, was Lori Herter's OBSESSION (which I discussed in my blog post a few months ago), published in the very early 1990s.
