FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Vampire Film Festival aka Vampire Fest Takes Over New Orleans October 27 - October 31, 2010
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (September 30, 2010) - Coming to New Orleans to celebrate the spookiest weekend of the year? Make sure that the Vampire Film Festival, the area's premiere event dedicated to the creatures of the night and their brethren, is on your to-do list! The festival runs from October 27 until October 31 at the Shadowbox Theatre at 2400 St. Claude in the Marigny district.
INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL @ SHADOWBOX THEATRE
This year the international film festival will add voodoo films to the mix in addition to vampire films, gothic films and mythic horror films. "Expect a diverse collection of films including titles from Lebanon and the Russian Federation when the announcement is made next week," offered festival programmer and NPR Film Week critic, Tim Cogshell.
DACRE STOKER 3PM HALLOWEEN @ SHADOWBOX THEATRE
Vampire Fest celebrates the dark arts and this festival promises a diverse collection of events. As Shakespeare once wrote, "the evil that men do lives after them" and no literary figure embodies that sentiment more than the Sire himself, Count Dracula. To that end, Bram Stoker's great grandnephew, Dacre Stoker, has written the only official sequel to the landmark novel called Dracula the Undead. Mr. Stoker will be appearing at the festival at 3 pm on Halloween to give a multi-media presentation about his family, his work, and, of course, Dracula himself moderated by LSU professor John Edgar Browning.
LIVE VAMPIRE SKETCH SHOW 3 NIGHTS @ SHADOWBOX THEATRE
Sunlight's for Suckers is a festival exclusive, world premiere live vampire sketch show from local theatre troupe Stupid Time Machine. It runs for three nights, 10/28-10/30, and promises a rollicking fun time about vampires, werewolves and other fads that refuse to die.
LIT PANEL - WHY DO WOMEN WRITE BLOODY GOOD VAMPIRE FICTION 3PM 10/30 @ SHADOWBOX THEATRE
Fiction wouldn't be the same without the novelists willing to tell the stories that allow us to flirt with danger from the comfort of our homes and with the recent explosion of bloodsuckers in print, the Vampire Film Festival has invited several authors to the event to talk about their work. On 10/30 at 3 pm, the Dracula's Bookshelf will host a panel called "Why Do Women Write Bloody Good Vampire Fiction?" featuring authors Karen Essex (Dracula In Love), Sue Dent (Never Ceese), and Gabrielle Faust (the Eternal Vigilance series.) Explore from Anne Rice to Stephenie Meyer and Charlaine Harris why women are full of literary vampire blood.
PARADES & SCAVENGER HUNT 10/30 @ FRENCH MARKET
In keeping with tradition, the Jazz Funeral for a Vampire, a lively, music-fueled procession through the French Market area of the French Quarter, takes place on 10/30 at 11 am starting at Dutch Alley. Immediately following that is a French Quarter Scavenger hunt with prizes ranging from free screening tickets to free tickets to one of the festival's events!
