Lynsay Sands, The Argeneau Vampire Series
Today, we're taking a look at the Argeneau Vampire series by Lynsay Sands. VampChix reviewed her lastest, BORN TO BITE
a couple days ago, so page down to read the review. The book is due in stores tomorrow, but if you're lucky, you've probably already found a copy. If you haven't read Sands, I believe you can start anywhere in the series, and not miss too much. But I know most of you diehard paranormal romance fans like to start series at the beginning!
Lynsay is offering a signed copy of BORN TO BITE to one lucky commenter. So let's hear about your favorite Argeneau hero or heroine! And if you haven't read the series, tell us if you prefer standalone vampire romance stories, or those in a long-running series.
Here's the exciting trailer for BORN TO BITE:
And a blurb:
In BORN TO BITE, readers are introduced to Armand Argeneau, a vampire with a reputation for being a killer in the bedroom (literally). It’s not that Armand has been unlucky in love per se, he’s just had a string of bad luck with wives staying...well, undead. Eshe D’Aureus is on the case to discover just how these wives perished. But just as Armand realizes the beautiful investigator is his true life mate, someone starts making attempts on Eshe’s life.
Now let's take a look at the entire series, starting with the first book, and going in order:
SINGLE WHITE VAMPIRE
Roundhouse Publishing editor Kate C. Leever's first letter to her newest legacy author was intended to impress upon him the growing demand for his "vampire romances." Though he'd expressed little to no desire for publicity, book tours or the like, it was clear that this was a writer waiting to be broken out. Correspondence with Mr. Lucern Argeneau tended to be oddly delayed, but this time his response was quick and succinct.
"No."
But Kate was adamant: Luc will attend a romance convention to meet his fans. By hook or by crook, despite his reclusive nature, odd sleep schedule and avoidance of the sun, the surly yet handsome Luc was going to be recognized as the real charmer a nationally bestselling author should be. But soon Kate would learn that his novels were more biographies than bodice rippers, and it'd be her neck on the line.
A sweeter surrender, or more heartwarming a love story—his own—Luc has yet to write.
LOVE BITES
The second in Sands' deliciously sexy comedic series featuring the charismatic Argeneau clan (following Single White Vampire [BKL S 15 03] ) is a delight. This time the focus is on Etienne, a successful computer game designer who has become the target of a homicidal maniac called Pudge. The first time Etienne sees Dr. Rachel Garrett, it's in the hospital morgue where she removes a bullet from his apparently stilled heart. She doesn't recognize him when he is brought in again a week later as a charred corpse. Astounded to find a heart beat, she shields her "patient" from an axe-wielding Pudge, who attacks her instead. When Rachel regains consciousness, she discovers that Etienne has made her into a vampire to save her life. Rachel has to stay with Etienne to learn to control her teeth and drink blood, which she finds extremely unpalatable. Add one sexy cousin and a page-turning climax, and readers will be highly amused, very satisfied, and eager for the next Argeneau tale.
TALL, DARK & HUNGRY
The taste of temptation
Terri had flown from England to help plan her cousin's wedding, but paying for a New York hotel room was like giving blood! She had an alternative: the new in-laws were offering lodging.
Of course, the Argeneaus were a certifiably odd bunch. There was the sometimes chipper, sometimes brooding Lucern—a "vampire romance" writer. There was the wacky stage actor, Vincent. She couldn't imagine Broadway casting a more ravenous singing-and-dancing Dracula. And then there was Bastien. Of this unique cast of characters, he seemed the tallest, darkest and hungriest—and his effect on Terri was decidedly delicious. Just looking into his eyes made her want to serve up her innocence on a silver platter. And she had a feeling the love feast was about to begin.
A QUICK BITE
Once bitten, twice shy, and sexy PI Jackie Morrisey wasn't going there again. Vincent Argeneau may be the hottest guy she's ever met, living or dead, but she's here to stop a killer from turning this vampire into dust, not to jump into bed with him.
Rule #2: Never kiss a vampire . . . it can be a pain in the neck.
Okay, so Vincent's had four hundred years to perfect his kissing skills, and he does look rather tempting when he runs around the house shirtless. He's also charming, protective . . . did we mention he can kiss? Jackie needs to be on her guard, or else she'll have to come up with a new rule: If you're going to fall in love with a vampire, make sure it's a bite to remember.

A QUICK BITE
That hot guy tied to Lissianna Argeneau's bed? He's not dessert—he's the main course!
Lissianna has been spending her centuries pining for Mr. Right, not just a quick snack, and this sexy guy she finds in her bed looks like he might be a candidate. But there's another, more pressing issue: her tendency to faint at the sight of blood . . . an especially annoying quirk for a vampire. Of course it doesn't hurt that this man has a delicious-looking neck. What kind of cold-blooded vampire woman could resist a bite of that?
Dr. Gregory Hewitt recovers from the shock of waking up in a stranger's bedroom pretty quickly—once he sees a gorgeous woman about to treat him to a wild night of passion. But is it possible for the good doctor to find true love with a vampire vixen, or will he be just a good meal? That's a question Dr. Greg might be willing to sink his teeth into . . . if he can just get Lissianna to bite.
A BITE TO REMEMBER
Rule #1: Never get involved with someone who won't be there for you when the sun comes up.
Once bitten, twice shy, and sexy PI Jackie Morrisey wasn't going there again. Vincent Argeneau may be the hottest guy she's ever met, living or dead, but she's here to stop a killer from turning this vampire into dust, not to jump into bed with him.

BITE ME IF YOU CAN
Once Bitten . . .
One minute Leigh is walking home in the early hours of the morning, and the next a vampire is sinking his teeth into her neck. Turns out it was a rogue vampire marked for termination, but it does Leigh little good because the damage's already been done. She's become one of them.
Lucian Argeneau, hunter of rogue vampires, has been alive for over two thousand years, and there's very little to excite him anymore. Food has become tasteless, sex is ordinary. Then Leigh drops into his life. Suddenly he finds himself craving coffee . . . and imagining the sassy brunette atop the black satin sheets on his nice big bed. It's Lucian's job now to enlighten Leigh on the inner workings of being immortal . . . and tutoring her is igniting a fire in him that hasn't burned in centuries.
But until they stop a renegade bloodsucker from destroying the human race, passion will have to wait!

THE ACCIDENTAL VAMPIRE
Ever since an accident turned her into a knockout vamp, Elvi Black's been catching her z's in a coffin, staying out of the sun, and giving up garlic. She knows there's more to being undead than what she saw in Dracula, but she can't very well ask her mortal friends about proper biting etiquette. But when her neighbors placed a personal ad for her in the local paper, she never imagined she'd meet Victor Argeneau, a vampire who could have his pick of any woman—dead or alive.
Rich, powerful, and drop—dead gorgeous, Victor's the perfect man for a novice neck—biter like Elvi. He's willing to teach her everything he knows, but he'll have to do it fast. Someone's out to put a stake through her new vamp life, and only Victor can keep her safe—and satisfied—for all eternity.

VAMPIRES ARE FOREVER
Inez Urso is beginning to have her doubts. Her business associate Thomas Argeneau has some interesting traits, like an allergic reaction to the sun, excellent night vision, and not much of an appetite for food. And to top it all off, he just tried to bite her neck . . . but maybe that was a sign of passion. If so, she'd be happy to experience more, despite her determination not to mix business with pleasure.
Well, if not forever, at least two hundred years. Inez is the most beautiful woman he's seen in centuries. Those luscious lips, seductive curves, and her elegant neck . . . he just couldn't resist the temptation of one little bite. Now Thomas will do anything to convince her that only an immortal like him can satisfy her all night long . . .
VAMPIRE, INTERRUPTED
After seven hundred years of life, Marguerite Argeneau finally has a career. Well, the start of one, anyway. She's training to be a private investigator, and her first assignment is to find an immortal's mother. It seemed simple enough, until Marguerite wakes up one evening to find herself at the wrong end of a sword. Now she realizes she's in way over her head.
Julius Notte wants to protect Marguerite, and not because someone just tried to take her head off. She doesn't know it yet, but she's his lifemate and he's determined to woo her. It's been over five hundred years since he last courted a woman, but surely the techniques haven't changed. Now if only he can keep her alive—so to speak—so they can have that happily-ever-after.

A spin-off series from the Argeneau Vampires is The Rogue Hunters novels:
THE ROGUE HUNTER
Samantha Willan is a workaholic lawyer. She's grateful for some rest and relaxation in cottage country, and after a recent breakup she wants to stay as far away from romance as possible. Then she meets her irresistible new neighbor. There's something strange and mysterious about his eyes. Is it just her imagination, or are they locked on her neck?
Garrett Mortimer is a rogue hunter. His last assignment united Lucian Argeneau with his lifemate, and Mortimer is hoping this one will be less . . . adventurous. He's here to track down a reported rogue, but fun in the sun is every bloodsucker's nightmare. Worse, he can't seem to get his mind off Samantha, especially when he spies her skinny-dipping in the lake. After eight hundred years as a bachelor, is he ready to turn a volatile attraction into a lasting love affair?
THE IMMORTAL HUNTER
Well, if not forever, at least two hundred years. Inez is the most beautiful woman he's seen in centuries. Those luscious lips, seductive curves, and her elegant neck . . . he just couldn't resist the temptation of one little bite. THE IMMORTAL HUNTER
Even vampires need a vacation. But Decker Argeneau's ends abruptly when he's asked to help hunt the group of rogue vampires targeting mortals -- one that might include a defector in his own family. Before he can worry about that, though, he's got to rescue the latest victim. It's all part of the job, including taking a bullet for a beautiful doctor.
Dr. Danielle McGill doesn't know if she can trust the man who just saved her life. There are too many questions, such as what is the secret organization he says he's part of, and why do his wounds hardly bleed? However, with her sister in the hands of some dangerous men, she doesn't have much choice but to trust him.
Except now Decker's talking about life mates and awakening a passion that's taking Dani beyond anything she's ever known. Being undead may not be half-bad...especially if it means spending forever with a man who would love her with his mind, body, and immortal soul.
THE RENEGADE HUNTER
The Argeneau family has a secret . . . one of their own is a rogue vampire!
Nicholas Argeneau was once a successful hunter who went after rogue vampires who broke the immortal law. Except no one has mentioned his name in the last fifty years, not since he turned into a rogue himself. But once a hunter, always a hunter. When Nicholas sees a bloodthirsty sucker terrifying a woman, it's second nature for him to come to her rescue. He had no idea he would also want to kiss her senseless . . .
One minute Josephine Willan is taking in a breath of fresh air, and the next sharp fangs are heading straight for her neck! Luckily, a gorgeous stranger saves her life . . . and gets locked up for his troubles. Can a man who kisses so lovingly and passionately really have committed the crime he's accused of? Jo isn't so sure . . . and she's determined to prove that this renegade hunter is worth fighting for.

Review: BORN TO BITE by Lynsay Sands
BORN TO BITE
is a compelling paranormal romantic mystery that pairs sexy vampire Armand Argeneau with sassy enforcer Eshe d'Aureus in, of all places, a cozy rural farm setting.
The latest entry in Lynsay Sand's Argeneau vampire series, this novel can be read in the series order, or out of order. I confess I have only read one previous book in this series, but wasn't lost at all to jump in with book #10, so I don't believe others will be confused or wonder if they missed something. Characters from previous books make an appearance, but they are explained well.
The heroine, a sassy vampire enforcer who wears leather and rides a motorcycle, Eshe, is sent to keep an eye on Armand Argeneau when it is suspected he may have a hand in the deaths of his former wives. He's a bit cold toward Eshe at first—the guy is very busy with his farm—and yet when they realize they are life mates, their mutual attraction instantly heats up. And did you know vampires can suddenly start eating mortal food when they meet their life mate? Cool! Much eating occurs in this story, because the lovers want to take advantage of all the great foods they've missed in their centuries-long lives.
There's also a lot of fire. Metaphorically and real flames that haunt the hero and enter his life once again now that he's found a new love. But the majority of the flames come from Eshe and Armand as they navigate their lives together. I would say this is a more quiet vampire story, not filled with so much action and adventure that the main couple rarely get time to breathe, but rather a slow and satisfying exploration into two lives that are brought together. The mystery elements of the story do at times overwhelm the romance, but it all comes to a very surprising conclusion.

From the publisher: A THRILLING, PAGE-TURNING TALE OF ADVENTURE AND FORBIDDEN PASSION...
Syrie James approaches Bram Stoker's classic Dracula with a breathtaking new perspective--as, for the first time, Mina Harker records the shocking story of her scandalous seduction and sexual rebirth.
Who is this magnetic, fascinating man? And how could one woman fall so completely under his spell?
Mina Harker is torn between two men. Struggling to hang on to the deep, pure love she's found within her marriage to her husband, Jonathan, she is inexorably drawn into a secret, passionate affair with a charismatic but dangerous lover. This haunted and haunting creature has awakened feelings and desires within her that she has never before known, which remake her as a woman.
Although everyone she knows fears him and is pledged to destroy him, Mina sees a side to him that the others cannot: a tender, romantic side; a man who's taken full advantage of his gift of immortality to expand his mind and talents; a man who is deeply in love, and who may not be evil after all. Soon, they are connected in a way she never thought humanly possible.
Yet to surrender is surely madness, for to be with him could end her life. It may cost Mina all she holds dear, but to make her choice she must learn everything she can about the remarkable origins and unique, sensuous powers of this man, this exquisite monster, this ... Dracula!

DRACULA IN LOVE
by Karen Essex
Doubleday; 1st edition (August 10, 2010)
From the publisher: In this wonderfully transporting novel, award-winning author Karen Essex turns a timeless classic inside out, spinning a haunting, erotic, and suspenseful story of eternal love and possession.
From the shadowy banks of the river Thames to the wild and windswept Yorkshire coast, Dracula’s eternal muse, Mina Murray, vividly recounts the intimate details of what really transpired between her and the Count—the joys and terrors of a passionate affair that has linked them through the centuries, and her rebellion against her own frightening preternatural powers.
Mina’s version of this gothic vampire tale is a visceral journey into Victorian England’s dimly lit bedrooms, mist-filled cemeteries, and asylum chambers, revealing the dark secrets and mysteries locked within. Time falls away as she is swept into a mythical journey far beyond mortal comprehension, where she must finally make the decision she has been avoiding for almost a millennium.
Bram Stoker’s classic novel offered one side of the story, in which Mina had no past and bore no responsibility for the unfolding events. Now, for the first time, the truth of Mina’s personal voyage, and of vampirism itself, is revealed. What this flesh and blood woman has to say is more sensual, more devious, and more enthralling than the Victorians could have expressed or perhaps even have imagined.
