Last year, the anthology Evolve
Nancy has edited another vampire anthology that takes the undead beyond 2012, into 2032, 2082, and 3000--the vampire of the future. The publisher, Edge SF&F, would like your help and VampChix has kindly offered to host this quick survey. Here's a rare opportunity for readers to help select a book cover that you like.
The cover for Evolve is to the left, for comparison.
The other two (called Banshee and Embraced) are proposed covers for Evolve Two: Vampire Stories of the Future Undead, which will be out this fall.
Please post your answers to these two questions:
Which cover do you like the best, and why?
Which cover do you think is the best follow-up for the first anthology?
Cover #1: BANSHEE
Cover #2: EMBRACED
Remember to answer the two questions in the comments: Which cover do you like the best, and why? Which cover do you think is the best follow-up for the first anthology? (Please use cover # when commenting. Thx!)
And to encourage you to give your opinion, VampChix will draw a name on Sunday to win a copy of Nina Bangs' ETERNAL PREY

I've never heard of the first book, but judging on the just the cover of the book it looks good. I like the second cover the best because it seems to fit the "style" (hope that makes sense) that the first book used. For that reason alone I do think it would fit the best for a follow-up to the first anthology.
I think the face is much more potent. So I vote for the first one.
But either one will work. But my vote is for the first one here.
Thanks for allowing us to vote!
Hi Michele! I just received Evolve in the mail this week and loved the cover. To me, the second one here would be the best follow-up image. It has the same texture, background eeriness and blur effects of the first one. I kind of like the idea of a ghoulish figure in a white dress being on every cover in some way!
I prefer the second cover. It's richness excites my senses and fits with the style of the first volume's cover.
Hi Everyone,
Nancy Kilpatrick here, the editor. Please refer to the two covers by name because I'm not sure when you say second cover if you're talking about #2 of 3 covers or what.
So:
The blue cover is BANSHEE
The black cover is EMBRACE
If you've already mentioned a cover but not identified it, please say again.
Thanks so much for your help with this.

Hi Tiffany, Melissa and Amanda. Could you repost your comment and identify the cover by name? We appreciate it. We want to make sure your choice is properly considered.
Thanks,
Nancy K.
I like better the black cover, EMBRACE. More.. oniric. Less nightmasish.

Cool! I'd vote for Embraced -- I like the ambiguous nature...the fact that we can't see a human face which is much more disconcerting.
I also think Banshee looks like it skews to the Paranormal Romance (beautiful woman...who is still beautiful even in death) while Embraced is ambiguous. Humanlike...but not human. Both are fantastic. Who is the artist?
Cover #2 Embrace definitely. The other one leaves me feeling cold, where the fab shock of red in the second one speaks to the warm blooded living treat :)

EMBRACE for me. It looks moodier and fits better with the tone of the first volume so they'd look better as a pair on the shelf.

I really like #2: Embraced. It follows the same thematic feeling of the first Evolve (which I absolutely loved!)
Embraced is my favourite, Banshee is way to emo looking for me, would walk right past a book with that cover
Banshee catches my eye more, but I think Ryan makes a good point (that it's suggestive of paranormal romance). Embrace is perhaps more fitting, though I'm not sure about the framing around the image.
Cover No. 1 jumps out at me.
I much prefer #2, Embrace. It has the same feel as the first Evolve cover, which I loved. As williemeikle said, they'd make a good matched set.
I prefer the first cover, "Banshee", as it is quite striking. It really drew me in. The second cover, "Embrace" is more in the style of the first volume of "Evolve" though. Nontheless, I prefer "Banshee".
I prefer Embraced. I like the juxtaposition of the human hand on the door and the inhuman hand in the foreground. Very nice.
I have to vote for the second cover, it just has more of the dark undertones I love.
Embraced!
It has a style continuation feel from the first cover, makes them a definite "set" and they'd look fabulous on everyone's book shelves together. ;)
Similar to the first cover, it's enchanting and mysterious. I love it!
I have to go with Cover #2 - Embraced. Same primary comment as a couple other posters; it fits better with the feel of volume one. Also, while the blue is cooler (i.e. more cold, not hip), and an argument can be made for how that ties into vampire literature, the warmer tome in Embraced from the splash of red/orange hints more at sensuality, passion, and um, blood. Hope this helps?
Definitely the second one ("Embraced"). It's more evocative and unusual, and it seems to fit well with the original Evolve cover--like it, well, evolved from it. No pun. Plus, it's intriguing. The first cover option seems a bit more run-of-the mill.
EMBRACE. The other one is quite ugly.
I would go with #2 Embraced. It is nebulous like the first issue and give a sense of movement.
I like the second one because it evokes the first and has more ambiguity and mystery.

I agree with Ryan & Willie. Embrace has a similar look and feel to the Oringinal EVOLVE cover. I would look twice at the Embrace cover as a stand-alone in a bookstore. Wonderfully creepy!
Embrace. It reflects the style of the first Evolve antho and the other one seems a little to romancy.
I much prefer the EMBRACED image, though I'm not crazy about how the "w" looks in the title. It looks like a Volkswagen logo, and evokes Herbie more than it does futuristic vampires.
I like cover number two (Embraced) better. It fits better with the style of the first book.
Definitely EMBRACED! The design is obscure, yet conveys a "dark" tone. The first choice immediately fell flat with me; EMBRACED, however, jumped up and said "Hello!"
EMBRACED definitley matches the style of the first Evolve cover. They're two of a kind!
I agree with the comment above about the "W." It does look a bit like the Volkswagen logo, and it could possibly diminish the effectiveness of the cover. That's just my opinion, though.
I agree with @melissa's comment that Embrace follows edition one in texture and atmosphere. I love that no matter how many times I look at Embrace, there is something more to see.
Banshee is very beautiful, but it would not carry the kind of continuity with edition one that Embrace will.

This is difficult! I think EMBRACED looks more like EVOLVE, but BANSHEE is quite beautiful. To me, EMBRACED looks more "literary." So maybe I am voting for EMBRACED.

I quite like Banshee - it's beautiful and gothic.
I like the Embraced cover better. It evokes more emotion and it has a similar feel to it as the original Evolve cover.
I like cover #2 Embraced better. It fits the first book better, similar in styles, textures and with the title over the image, not seperate.
I like the second cover better! It makes my eyes do less wonky things and I think that it is very much hauntingly beautiful.
I prefer #2 Embrace! It's richness excites my senses and fits with the style of the first volume's cover.
Repeat as requested:

I prefer #2 Embrace. I like you have to look to see what is in it.
I think #2 Embrace is best for the follow-up becase it is similar to the first book.
Ruth
I enjoyed the picture from #1 but I enjoy the text layout from #2. All in all the text look on my shelves is nice so I am choosing #2.
The anthology looks fantastic. I cannot wait.

I vote for BANSHEE. It evokes that terrifying moment when a character looks over their shoulder, through the window into what should be an empty night...but isn't.
EMBRACE looks too similar to the first one, to me. There's less identity, whereas BANSHEE looks like it could be a zoom-in on the first cover, bringing the creatures into focus.
However, both are beautiful, and I can't wait to read the stories!
Embraced
They're both nice covers, though I prefer the second, which seems much more complementary to the first book, and, with the more animalistic, less human elements, better suggests an evolution. I also like the little glimpse of color at the top, the almost flame-orange directly beneath the title, and the yellow text at top and bottom. The first cover, with its grays and blacks and blues, suggests cold and ice and death. Which, you know, isn't necessarily a bad thing to suggest with a vampire book -- and could even be a better fit, depending on the stories themselves. But I'm sticking with #2 as my favorite.
I like BANSHEE best. You'd think that EMBRACE would best transition Evolve 1 to Evolve 2 but the face on BANSHEE ties to Evolve 1.
I prefer Banshee but I think Embraced fits more with the style of Evolve1. Having said that, I didn't care for the Evolve1 cover to be honest. I would likely pick up the Banshee cover on a table of books before the Embraced cover.
I think cover # 2 Embraced is the best follow up cover for Evolved 2. It has a similar style to the first edition and you will feel the continuity and see them as set together. I also find the artwork very inspiring. I can not wait for the next edition to be out.
I prefer cover #2 Embraced because cover #1 kinda freaks me out, and cover two looks similar to Evolve, so you can tell the story continues.
I prefer the second cover over the first. The first one is just too up close and personal for me
forgot second question :) I agree with Sheepa in that the second cover looks similar to the first and therefore shows that it is a continuation of the first anthology.
I definitely prefer 'Embraced'. The first one looks rather generic & would be more suitable to a paranormal teen or romance novel. Embraced has the same look as the cover of the first volume, with the eerie human figure and would fit better for a sequel volume.
Definitely #2.
I vote for cover 2 "Embraced"
Cover 1 (the face), reminds me of the Cure for some reason. But not in a way that would make me buy the book :-) Looks a bit too "teen novel."
Cover 2 is spooky, almost zombie-ish. Which I likes.
I'm voting for the first book cover Banshee. The second one is great, but it has so much going on that it is almost hard to look at.

I was looking at the 2 cove and I really like it too, but once I started really looking at it the hand looks weird and it doesnt make me want to buy it... I like the Banshee! It looks clean, it has some soft colours, and the writting stands out more clearly! Hope that helped <3 Im really excited to read this book when its out!! Happy Publishing!
I like Cover #2 Embraced the best. Aside from the fact that I just find it more visually pleasing and intriguing then the first option I think the style fits perfectly with the first anthology and is the best follow-up cover for the first anthology. I think it is more eye-catching and most likely to catch your interest and make you want to pick the anthology up and look at it more closely.
I like the Second cover.
Ashleigh Sky from N.B. ON Canada
I like both covers, but I prefer Number 2, Embraced. It also seems to follow the style of the first volume a little better, as opposed to Number 1, Banshee, which draws much more attention directly to the face.
I prefer the first one (#1 Banshee)
I think it evokes more. The second one has a very obvious horror feel to it, where as the first one is somewhat more ethereal and displays some of the grace and beauty that goes with the vampire myth. And yet it is still full of angles and has a cold feel to it, so there isn't any doubt that it's not warm and fuzzy.
I think you'll draw more readers who aren't familiar with the first anthology with the first cover. The second screams "horror", not "vampire" to me. IMHO.
I VOTE FOR 2 AS YOU CAN'T TELL WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS, A GOOD DISPLAY AND BOLDNESS.
I like the first cover because it is clearer and easier to see even from a distance. The second cover is not so clear. i would have to be up close to see it.
I vote for EMBRACE. The graphic style is closer to the first one, if I saw them side by side I would know they are a set.
I like the fact that you have to lean in a bit to get more detail from the image- isn't the whole point of a book to draw the reader in?
I think the creepy face is a little too overdone so my vote would definitely be for the second cover. The second cover would also be a good follow up because they both have a creepy figure in white which I think connects the two covers very well.
I like them both very much, but I think my vote goes for the second, Embrace. I find it quite eerie and frightening, as if it is the next stage of Evolve 1's cover.
I prefer cover 2 as it is scarier than the first.
Cover #1: BANSHEE ... draws me in. It's moodier. It felt kind of Goth. The second option was not as appealing because the main character is looking away as though she's oblivious to anyone around her or she's not wanting to connect in anyway. Book cover option #2 seems to say "go away."
Cover #1: BANSHEE
though i didnt read the eolve
regretfully, ive been a little behind on books
Which cover do you like the best, and why? its just , well i dont want to sound weird, but its just make chill bumps
and calls out READ ME
Which cover do you think is the best follow-up for the first anthology?
well if i had read it, i might could really explain more, but its more of a scary serial killer or scary movie book, some reason, remins me of the movie jeeper creepers
Cover #1 grabbed my attention more, I loved the gothic imagery. Made me feel like it was being marketed to older teens.
Cover #2 looks more sophisticated like it's for a more mature audience.
I love the modern/futuristic font in both cases.
I prefer Cover #2 EMBRACE, as it's more striking and unusual.
I also think it's the better follow-up to the first anthology, as it feels similar in tone.
