Giveaway! AN EMBARRASSMENT OF RICHES by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro

We're gettin' a little giveaway crazy this week!  VampChix has another great book to offer our readers, this time AN EMBARRASSMENT OF RICHES by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, new out in bookstores just last week, as offered by her publisher to one lucky commenter.

More than two decades strong, the Saint-Germain cycle is one of the most compelling works of dark fantasy and horror of our age. Historically accurate, often involving key events or figures from throughout world history, these deeply emotional novels have a devoted readership. Each novel is written as a stand-alone and they are not chronologically consecutive, so readers may enter the saga with any book and move backward or forward in time as they choose, from Pharaonic Egypt to Paris in the 1700s, from the fall of the Roman Empire to World War II Europe.

In An Embarrassment of Riches, the vampire Count finds himself a virtual prisoner in the Court of Kunigunde in Bohemia in the 1200s. Rakoczy Ferncsi, as Saint-Germain is known, passes his days making jewels to delight Queen Kunigunde and trying not to become involved in the Court's intrigues. In this, the vampire fails. Handsome, apparently wealthy, and obviously unmarried, he soon finds himself being sexually blackmailed by Rozsa, an ambitious lady-in-waiting. If he does not satisfy her, she will denounce him to the priests and he'll be burned at the stake, resulting in his True Death. Despite his care, the vampire makes more than one enemy at the Bohemian Court, and by the end of An Embarrassment of Riches, the Count can see only one road to freedom...through death.

To enter, comment on your favorite time period to read about, and why.  Do you prefer historical or contemporary vampire novels?  [Winners for all contests this week will be announced on Saturday; still time to enter Kerrelyn Sparks' and the Christine Feehan giveaways, as well, by commenting on those days.]

I love history, all history. I cannot pick any one time frame as my favorite because they are all my favorites.

I love reading about Scottish highlanders, Medieval Kings and Queens, good old worldly witch tales, and modern day vamps and shifters.

If its a well written book the time frame only adds to the story and draws me into the world of the novel, so I don't have a preference per say.

I love Highlander books! I loved the way that Jennifer Ashley addressed difficult topics such as autism and alcoholism in her highlander series.

I like reading about any historical time period. It's fun learning facts about a time and place I'm not familiar with while I enjoy the story.

I like the medieval time period, but really anything historical I love.

I love all times periods!
I especially love it when authors write in the present but flashback to historical times to give us background information; not hard to do with vamps since they tend to live really long lives.

I like both - i feel there is a romantic side when it comes to historical times and more of a sexy side when it's contemporary - they are both good :)

I love both . . . I enjoy the vamps that are in the real world today, as well as the historical stories (I started reading romance as a historical romance reader)

I would have to say that most vamp stories that I have read have taken place in the current time period, but I love a good vamp story no matter when it is set. I read alot of historical romance and there are more vamp books coming out lately that are set in the past, which I do love. But my favorite vamp authors are Kerrelyn Sparks and Lynsay Sands, who both write contemp vamp books. I love that they have so much humor added to their stories. They are both autobuys for me!

I won a copy of this on another site so I'd like to withdraw from the contest.

My first love is Scottish Highlanders and Time Travel, Regency era, medieval times, the Old West, shifters, Vamps, Weres and fallen angels. There are so many I can't choose one. ) I like better the Vamps in Historical reads but I also enjoy a few contemporaries as well.
Thanks for the post and the opportunity to win.

Although I love the medieval time period, I think I prefer more reading about vampires in modern times, especially those by authors that have adapted the typical view of the vampire into something more believable and less conforming to most vampire mythology.

I like reading about the Victorian era. All that decadence and scandal!
I enjoy reading both contemporary and historical vampire novels. I'd read about vampires in any setting!! I loves my vamps!!

It's hard to chose because it depends on the story teller some work well in Historical while others work best in contemporary

My favorite time period is Roman times - I've always found it fascinating. Interestingly enough, the first CQY book I read was set in Rome and introduced Olivia.
