Review: Unguarded by Ashley Robertson

Book description:

Guardian angel Selene was so close to becoming an archangel—the supreme of all beings—until she fell in love with Cole, a forbidden dark one. Once she discovers her vampire lover has been kidnapped and the only way to save him is by abandoning her number one priority—Caitlyn, her human charge—there really is only one answer in Selene’s mind, even though leaving Caitlyn unguarded will most likely cause Selene to fall from grace.

But her choice to save Cole doesn’t come without a price…and now Selene is racing against time to not only save her dark lover, but find a way to keep Caitlyn alive as well.
With the help of a new vampire ally, Luke, Selene will push her diminishing angel abilities to the point where her very existence lies in the balance. Now threatened with the chance of becoming a fallen angel or even dying, Selene can only pray she’ll have enough time—and good grace—to save the ones she loves.

Jenny's review:

Selene is an angel that has the job of protecting Caitlyn, a human. She is not just any angel either, she breaking many angel rules, but the biggest rule she is breaking is that she is in love with a vampire named Cole.  Cole has been taken by Limos, who wants Selene for himself and Selene is doing anything in her power to find where Cole is being hidden.  She turns from her duties and strikes a deal to find Cole, while doing this she meets Luke, another vampire who claims he will help her.  While she is gone, Caitlin suffers, and Selene wants to make it right.  But things are a little more complicated for her working with Luke to find Cole. Selene is hurt badly and drinks some of Luke’s blood, this changes her being forever, and sends her into trouble again with her guardian. (Wait until Cole finds out!)  In the mix of all of this Selene finds a way to possibly  make amends to her charge, Caitlin, but will it cost her everything or change her life forever? And who will she turn to Cole or Luke when things don’t go the way she thinks they will?
This book was interesting, and had a lot going on, so if the summary did not make sense it was because I was trying to give the idea of the book without giving away the key elements that you need to find out for yourself.  I have not read many books about angels, and definitely not one where the angels and vampires together, so I was intrigued. I liked this book, and thought that the story line was defiantly something new.  I wanted Selene to succeed in her quest for love at every step of the way and was cheering her on, but wish that the character of Cole was more defined. She talked and talked about how much she loved him (and she was even willing to leave her human without a guard to find him) but I did not feel that I knew him in the book. (Their relationship happened before the book so we don’t know that story line.)  All in all this was an interesting and enjoyable read, with love, loss , and a lot of fighting for what you believe in. Great for the high school crowd.
