Review: A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

Book Description:

On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?
Jenny's review:
Sophia knows that her life is different. Her mother was sent to a lunatic’s asylum, and she fears she is falling for her long time best friend, Ben. But when he forgets it is her birthday, again, she feels that she has had enough, and she walks away. Little does she know that she will be captured by Lucas Nova, a crazy vampire who won’t let her go, and she is then chosen by Derek Novak, the vampire prince who has just awakened. Sophia becomes Derek’s personal slave, and she knows that she is safe with him. But, Lucas is angry and he is out to take her away from Derek. As Sophia begins to feel at home with Derek, the violence starts. Sophia is not safe and Derek is beginning to think of her as something more.
I couldn’t stop reading this book, and now that it is over I really want the sequel! I thought that this story was great. It had a heroine that will capture your heart. Sophia is a girl whose life is not really that great: pining over her best friend wishing he was more, only to be captured and chosen by one of the most powerful vampires. I thought that the way Forrest goes between the two character's thoughts really helps add to the book. Even though Sophia is a slave, the way he changes his thought process about her makes you want them to be together even though you know it cannot work out well. Great read for young adult vampire lovers!
