Review: Cobweb Bride by Vera Nazarian

Book description:
Many are called...
She alone can save the world and become Death's bride.

COBWEB BRIDE (Cobweb Bride Trilogy, Book One) is a history-flavored fantasy novel with romantic elements of the Persephone myth, about Death's ultimatum to the world.

What if you killed someone and then fell in love with them?

In an alternate Renaissance world, somewhere in an imaginary "pocket" of Europe called the Kingdom of Lethe, Death comes, in the form of a grim Spaniard, to claim his Bride. Until she is found, in a single time-stopping moment all dying stops. There is no relief for the mortally wounded and the terminally ill....

Covered in white cobwebs of a thousand snow spiders she lies in the darkness... Her skin is cold as snow... Her eyes frozen... Her gaze, fiercely alive...

While kings and emperors send expeditions to search for a suitable Bride for Death, armies of the undead wage an endless war... A black knight roams the forest at the command of his undead father… Spies and political treacheries abound at the imperial Silver Court.... Murdered lovers find themselves locked in the realm of the living...

Look closer — through the cobweb filaments of her hair and along each strand shine stars...

And one small village girl, Percy—an unwanted, ungainly middle daughter—is faced with the responsibility of granting her dying grandmother the desperate release she needs.

As a result, Percy joins the crowds of other young women of the land in a desperate quest to Death's own mysterious holding in the deepest forests of the North...

And everyone is trying to stop her.
Death has made a statement, until his Cobweb Bride is found, death will be no more.  No one understands what this means, until people and animals stop dying.  From the army in battle that stays alive with their mortal wounds, to the princess who is murdered in front of the court and yet lives, even to the pig that is ready for slaughter that just keeps living.  When all of these things begin to happen many girls from the kingdom set off on their way to find Death and offer themselves to him to be the Cobweb Bride, so that the dead can die.  Percy believes that with her special gift of seeing the shadows of the dead is proof she may be the Cobweb Bride.  She meets a group of girls also on their way, these girls have many close calls and are hunted by the Black Night.  None of them are sure they are going to make it to Death’s door, and they do not know if he will accept them either.
This book was full of interesting twists and had a ton of action.  I will say that when I started it, it took me a while to get into the story.  I was lost in what was happening, it went back and forth between characters, so we could hear their non death stories.  But once I got that sorted out, it was a great story.  Girls headed to marry Death so that the world can go back to peace.  Obstacles in their paths and having to overcome the forces against them.  I liked how it had a strong female lead that held the group together and how the story will continue as the end doesn’t seem quite like the end to me.
