Angie's Review:

The book description doesn't share a lot, so let me give you the rundown on the plot. This is an alternative history comic. Forget what you know. The Civil War went on longer, it ended with the mysterious crash of a comet that put an end to hostilities and created the Seven Nations. At the coming of the comet, 2 prophets received a message about the apocalypse, and they wrote that message down and it became a religion of power. Decades later, the third part of the message is received, and the prophesy is complete. The Chosen have followed the word because they believe they will be spared, and they are working to bring about the apocalypse along with three of the four horsemen-War, Conquest and Famine.

Death has gone rogue. He fell in love and was conquered by a woman, and now he is fighting for everything that matters to him. But to do that, he must go up against the other three horsemen, and the leaders of each of the Seven Nations.

I LOVE this. I adore the artwork. The city scenes are beautiful, and the action is powerful. Death's companions are really interesting, and when they engage in their first battle, I was in awe with the way they transformed. The artwork was gorgeous. I also love the look of Death's "horse." It is a unique concept, and I love the way it looks crashing into battle, or just in silhouette.

The story is a complex one, but as it unfolds there are so many cool things happening here. There is an America that is familiar and yet, totally foreign. There are humans with cybernetics, there are mythical beings on the loose, and there are prophecies and love and revenge. It feels like the beginning of an epic story, so I am really looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

The comics began back in March, and Tuesday is the release day for the trade paperback.
This is definitely going to be one of my new favorite series.
