For Gemma Green’s first time, things should have been straightforward. Find your subject, hold their gaze and push a thought into their head to save them from future disaster – Aversion complete. A pretty simple process given that the subject was to have no recollection of the experience. But Russ Tanner doesn’t seem to want to forget. In fact the more she tries to avoid him, the more he pushes to get to know her. Gemma knows she has a problem but is she facing the side effects of a failed Aversion or has the school’s tennis champ really fallen for her?
Gemma knows that she is not normal. She has been raised and trained as an Averter, she can help others make better choices. But on her first assignment, she makes a mistake and Russ remembers her. He begins to talk to her at school, no one talks to her. Against her better judgment Gemma starts a friendship with Russ. But what she begins to feel is not just friendship. One day things change, a man comes looking for Gemma and her father. Her father finally tells the truth about their past. They decide to run, and Gemma thinks that she will never see Russ again. But she is so wrong, and when they meet again they just might have to fight to stay alive.
This was a great teen book. Gemma was the typical not popular girl, and a popular boy starts showing interest in her, and she cannot even believe it, and doesn’t want to fall for him. The classic teen feel, with a twist in that Gemma has a super power, and her father is keeping a big secret. If you like teen romance with a sci-fi twist this is the book for you!!
