Angie's Review:

Holy cow, this is creepy! And I mean that in the best way possible.

We start off this series with a premise that we are all familiar with- the dead are rising. But these are not zombies, exactly. They don't want to eat brains and they aren't quite mindless. But some of them are insane...murderously insane. Right from the beginning, we see a corpse that goes into the crematorium come back to life, and a little girl as well. So you KNOW this is going to be a hell of a horror show.

Dana and her sister, Em, are the main characters here. Dana is a cop, trying to maintain peace amongst the citizens of Wausau, while also investigating matters regarding the "revivers." And all that just got complicated by the fact that her sister appears to have been murdered and is a revitalized citizen herself. Now Dana has to try and solve her sister's murder and keep Em from hurting anyone else. That may be easier said than done, because Em is suddenly showing some remarkably violent tendencies. There is also something stalking the woods of the rural town. Is it a ghost, a demon, or an alien? It seems connected to a man from the past...who knows where this will lead? One thing is certain, you aren't going to get all of the answers yet. But I, for one, am now hooked. I am dying to know where this story goes.

Content wise- this is definitely one for the grown ups. There is a lot of violence, which goes without saying, but there are also sexual references and some nudity. Plus, the story is pretty disturbing and at times, gruesome. Maybe it's just me, but the image of a woman who came back from the dead, pulling out all of her teeth over and over because her dentures don't fit right anymore is kind of unsettling. So, if you have a weak stomach, maybe this one isn't for you. But, it is really intriguing, really frightening, and well written and illustrated. So I am coming back to this as soon as possible. Volume 2 is definitely on my wish-list.
