Serenity Comics

Hey, Browncoats- just wanted to let you know that if you are dying for more Firefly stories, these are some comics for you.
We may have only had one season of the beloved TV show, but Serenity is still flying like a leaf on the wind in stories -some written by Joss Whedon himself.  If you're a die-hard, you may already know about these, but for anyone who doesn't know- not only are there older comics published around 2010, but there is a newer series that just started this year. So let's have a look.

Serenity, Volume 1: Those Left Behind

Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) bridges the gap between his cult-hit Firefly TV series and his Serenity motion picture with this three-issue comics series - now in a hardcover edition!
The ragtag crew of Serenity - mercenaries, fugitives, and one law-abiding prostitute - pursue fast cash and a little peace along the fringes of space. On a scavenger mission that promises a big payoff, they realize too late that they are being played by an old enemy with a grudge.

Serenity, Volume 2: Better Days

Serenity: Better Days follows everyone's favorite space cowboys in a thrilling, action-packed adventure, where Mal and his crew take on a heist that promises a big payoff. But when one of Serenity's crew is taken captive and tortured, the gang must put their enduring differences aside and work together to save one of their own, even if it means losing the cash prize of a lifetime! Joss Whedon returns to the world of his blockbuster film Serenity, reuniting with Brett Matthews and Will Conrad, his collaborators on the bestselling 2005 series Those Left Behind.

Serenity, Volume 3: The Shepherd's Tale

One of Serenity's greatest mysteries is finally revealed in The Shepherd's Tale, filling in the life of one of the show's most beloved characters - Shepherd Book!
Who was Book before meeting Mal and the rest of the Serenity crew, how did he become one of their most trusted allies, and how did he find God in a bowl of soup? Answers to these and more questions about Book's past are uncovered in this original hardcover graphic novel by rising stars Zack Whedon (Dr. Horrible, Terminator, Fringe) and Chris Samnee (Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps, Daredevil)
. A pivotal chapter in the ongoing Serenity saga, The Shepherd's Tale is also a rollicking, action-packed epic in its own right.

There are some stand alone comics out there too from a few years ago- just a few, but one was even written by Patton Oswalt! If you can get your hands on those, you can enjoy even more Firefly goodness. If not, here is the new series you can start following. It is set just after the events of the movie.

Serenity: Leaves on the Wind, Issue 1 of 6  (2014 series)

In the film Serenity, outlaw Malcolm Reynolds and his crew revealed to the entire 'verse the crimes against humanity undertaken by the sinister government—the Alliance. Here, in the official follow-up to the film, the crew has been in hiding since becoming everyone's most wanted, and now they are forced to come out. River uncovers more secrets, leading these former Browncoats on a dangerous mission against the Alliance that, with hope, will bring them together again . . .
Television writer Zack Whedon (Deadwood, Southland, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) continues the saga of Joss Whedon's space cowboys!

Serenity: Leaves on the Wind, Issue 2 of 6
Forced out of hiding, Serenity's crew gets separated, and it becomes clear that everyone looking for the outlaws is on the verge of finding them. River offers to uncover the secrets that are hidden within her in the hope that the crew might have something to bargain with.

Serenity: Leaves on the Wind, Issue 3 of 6
Serenity is found! The crew, including Jayne and a certain bounty hunter, get themselves ready to restock and retrieve when River wakes from her self-induced sleep and gives Mal a mandate . . . which will eventually—hopefully—maybe—lead to Zoe’s rescue!

And this brings us up to date. The newest issue is due out on April 30

Serenity: Leaves on the Wind, Issue 4 of 6

With help from the New Resistance, Mal and Serenity’s crew are crashing the secret Alliance facility from which River was rescued. She is certain they need to go there—now. Meanwhile, Zoe is in Alliance custody where she discovers that there is more immediate danger from fellow prisoners than anyone else . . .
And if you'd rather wait and read all of the issues at once, the Leaves on the Wind trade paperback is expected sometime in November of this year!

Keep misbehavin' until then and don't let anyone take the sky from you. ;)
