Star Wars books

You can't swing a cat these days without plowing into something Star Wars related, be it movies, cartoons, casting decisions, or just good 'ol fashioned speculation, so it shouldn't be too big a surprise to see that books are getting the star treatment as well. I'm pretty excited about this for a number of reasons, but the one thing that jumped straight out at me was that Kevin Hearne would be writing the second book, out in January 2015!

If you haven't tried his Iron Druid Chronicles then you are missing out. I even sent Hounded (book 1) downrange with Flyboy, since you can only go to the gym for so many hours before you wither away, and we definitely don't want that to happen. Don't believe me...go check out Kevin's website for yourself, visit the Writer's Grove section and prepare to get completely sidetracked by things like Cartel Coffee Lab, 8x10 art of Oberon that will be part of the upcoming Shattered tour, and the Fireside Magazine Kickstarter which publishes cool stories and pays authors a fair wage (Delilah S. Dawson, whom I rave about on a fairly regular basis has a short story in vol. 2). When you're done with the side journey, go back and read about the books since that's why we started this adventure in the first place.

Now, let's get back to Star Wars, shall we? So, John Jackson Miller is set to write the first new book, titled Star Wars: A New Dawn and tells the backstory of how two characters, Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla, meet. Then we will have Tarkin and then finally, Kevin Hearne will write Heir to the Jedi which, according to his site, will be set between episodes IV and V, all being told from Luke Skywalker's
first person POV. Wow! I'm not always the best at reading science fiction or stuff set in the Star Wars Universe (sooooo many options), although once upon a time, I did enjoy The Tales of the Bounty Hunter series, I do plan on reading these new ones for two primary reasons 1) because I was sad when the Clone Wars cartoon was cancelled, and 2) it's about time some new talent (Hearne) was given a chance to write in such a vast and creative world. This is a surefire way to have Luke be more badass and less whiny Jedi, which is awesome.

Here is the complete book list in order:

James Luceno

Kevin Hearne
January 2015

Paul Kemp
March 2015
