Christian can break his curse by kissing Brooke dead. Brooke can avenge her brother by killing Christian.
They never planned to fall in love.
It’s 1938 and Christian is just doing his job, reaping souls. But in his efforts to get the poison his desires, he makes a promise to Mary’s soul that he will watch over her sister. He has no idea what he will be getting himself into when he does this, he will find love. But the story does not end there, as he is not able to love a human, and there are beings around that will do anything to get in his way. Present day Brooke is mourning the loss of her brother, and trying to stay inside forever, she hates seeing the reapers that no one else can see, because she knows that one of them took her brother. She decides to head out one day to see her friend Abby, but she gets more than she bargains for when she meets William. William tells her that there is a reaper looking for her and he will kill her. But when she meets this reaper, Christian, she is not convinced. As we learn about Brooke’s powers as a watcher descended from the angels, we also hear the story of Christian’s past, and how he needs to find an angel to break his curse. As Christian and Brooke get closer, we know that something is going to come between them.
This was one of those books that when you read it you think “Is what I want to happen going to happen?” or “Would the author really not let that happen?’ Which makes you want to read and read until the book is done. The author draws you into the story immediately and keeps you on your toes the whole time. From the beginning you are going back and forth between which one of the reapers is the one that Brooke should watch out for. Brooke’s story is one that sucks you right in, she lost her brother and is just looking for a way to get over it, and when she finally has the courage to go back into the world, she is hit with a life changing event. A really good book!
